Role Overview:
The Data Center Engineering Operations Engineer is responsible for the hands-on management of all mechanical, electrical, and safety systems within AWS Data Centers in India. This role includes the oversight of critical infrastructure, ensuring operational efficiency, safety, and reliability.
Key Responsibilities:
- Operations and Maintenance:
- Full ownership of Data Center events, incidents, and problems.
- Manage the maintenance and repairs of critical infrastructure.
- Ensure the standardization of operating procedures.
- Handle asset and inventory management.
- Develop a deep understanding of all Data Center systems.
- Manage financial, regulatory, and personnel aspects related to engineering.
- Oversee health, safety, and environmental management.
- Ensure compliance with Amazon standards and local regulations.
- Incident and Emergency Response:
- Review and document incident reports.
- Coordinate information flow during incidents.
- Manage vendor interactions during emergencies.
- Daily Operations:
- Troubleshoot facility and rack-level issues.
- Manage contractors and vendors on-site.
- Perform maintenance and operations on all critical infrastructure.
- Provide operational metrics to ensure uptime.
- Support installation and decommissioning of equipment.
Key Skills and Qualifications:
Basic Qualifications:
- At least 2 years of experience in Data Center operations with on-call support.
- Undergraduate degree in a technical field (Electrical, Mechanical, Industrial Engineering).
- Understanding of mission-critical systems (e.g., Data Centers, Hospitals, Power plants).
- Ability to solve problems and prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong vendor negotiation and management skills.
- Excellent technical writing skills for documentation and procedures.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Deep understanding of electrical and mechanical systems used in Data Centers (e.g., UPS, generators, cooling systems).
- Familiarity with fire detection, suppression systems, and other facilities systems.
- Certifications like PMP, Prince2, ITIL, BICSI, ASHRAE, or CDCP/S/E are highly regarded.
Work Environment:
- 24×7 on-call support.
- Shift work, including weekends, with shifts up to 12 hours.
