Job Summary:
The Experience Engineer at Bread Financial uses code to develop visual experiences across web, mobile, and other UIs. The role involves understanding business problems and designing, developing, configuring, testing, and deploying software to solve these issues. Engineers produce applications that provide measurable business value, often using Agile techniques as part of a larger, cross-functional team. A passion for learning new languages and technologies is essential.
Essential Job Functions:
- Utilize the software development lifecycle to create and enhance applications.
- Inspect, analyze, and translate functional and non-functional requirements into technical design, application code, and configuration parameters.
- Produce design specifications, including screen layouts, graphical user interfaces, and printed outputs.
- Convert technical designs into functioning components through development and configuration.
- Provide technical on-call support as defined within team and role expectations.
- Create and execute unit tests, analyze code to identify errors and defects, and remediate known errors in development and production support contexts.
- Review application code for self and peers, defining, supporting, and enforcing code standards and guidelines.
- Estimate and size work based on high-level requirements, continuously improving applications and processes with a focus on quality, efficiency, and user experience.
- Cultivate relationships across roles and organizations to maximize collaboration, partnership, and efficiency.
- Provide peer coaching and feedback formally and informally, utilizing feedback for personal development.
- Proficiency in at least two and ideally three programming languages (e.g., COBOL, Java) and maintain at least three applications.
- Work autonomously, providing technical supervision to peers while demonstrating business knowledge within financial services and marketing domains.
- Influence the team to achieve desired business outcomes.

Working Conditions/Physical Requirements:
- Normal office environment with some travel required.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience in Information Technology, Computer Science, Computer Information Systems, Software Engineering, Mathematics, Statistics, or related area.
- 0+ years of work experience in a related field.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience in related fields.
- More than 2 years of related work experience.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Agile Development Process, Principles & Methodologies
- Business Acumen and Problem Solving
- Continuous Improvement
- DevOps Tools & Practices
- HTML, CSS, JS, Web Frameworks (React, Angular, Vue, etc.), React Native, Flutter, Swift, API consumption, and development
- Azure (or AWS equivalent): App Service, Functions, Pipelines
- Basic knowledge of at least one in-demand programming language
- Knowledge in one “layer” of the solution stack (e.g., front-end, services)
