DESCRIPTION The Site Safety Officer will partner with a site operations team in a Fulfillment Center to execute company safety policies and ensure compliance with all applicable local and regional regulations. Leveraging lean principles and kaizens, this individual will lead continuous improvement initiatives to reduce conditional and ergonomic risk in our processes, ensuring a safe and healthful working environment for our Associates. The Site Safety Officer must build trust and confidence with the Operations Team and influence change through comprehensive risk assessments and safety data analysis.
The Site Safety Officer must be an effective communicator, sending clear, concise, and consistent messages both verbally and in writing. They will instruct and train Operations Leaders in company safety policies and assist site teams in incorporating safety standards. The officer will identify and integrate best practices into company safety policies. Expertise in safety programs, relevant safety, environmental, and ergonomic knowledge is crucial.
The Site Safety Officer will lead a safety team consisting of Safety Specialists, Safety Coordinators, and Onsite First Aid Associates. They must create and execute leadership development plans for their Safety Associates, communicate team expectations, provide frequent feedback, and ensure execution of core competencies.
Safety Officer Responsibilities:
- Provide guidance and oversight to ensure compliance with all applicable Amazon Safety Policies.
- Measure site performance against published safety policy requirements, identify deficiencies, and implement corrective plans.
- Deliver on-time and quality projects to Operations.
- Analyze safety metrics, review incident trends, and allocate resources to high-risk areas.
- Perform frequent site safety audits to identify and eliminate non-compliance risks.
- Audit recordkeeping practices and Global Safety Database entries for compliance.
- Audit workplace organization and Associate behaviors to ensure training, auditing, and scoring accuracy.
- Manage and mentor Safety Associates in the assigned Fulfillment Center.
- Seek input from Safety teams, Associates, and leaders on safety program improvements and ensure open communication on progress and resolutions.
- Ensure site leadership and Associates are knowledgeable and trained on their responsibilities under each policy. Audit the quality and effectiveness of all required safety training.
Basic Qualifications:
- 2+ years of experience in Environment, Health & Safety or ME in Industrial Safety Engineering.
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering or a related field.
- Experience in reputed private or government organizations.
- Experience managing multiple direct reports.
- Flexibility regarding shifts.
- Experience implementing lean principles and process improvement in an operational environment.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Fulfillment Center or Manufacturing Safety experience with a mix of exempt and non-exempt employees at a site of at least 200 people.
- Master’s degree preferred.
- Experience in a fast-paced, changing/growing organization.
- Government Certified Safety Professional preferred.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including interfacing with site leaders.
- Ability to develop and implement department goals and strategies.
- Strong analytical skills with demonstrated problem-solving ability.
- Ability to adapt well to fast-paced environments with changing circumstances, direction, and strategy.
